Western Districts Junior Hockey

 

 

Western Districts Hockey has been operating for over 50 years.  Though we are not as big as other clubs in the region, our Junior side of the club is regardest as one of the strongest.  In past years we have produced many Auckland Representitive players with a few who have gone onto National Representitive honours.                    

In 2012 we changed our Junior programme to fit the modern game.  This year all of our teams are coached with the Auckland Rep programme.  All children are given the opportunity to be part of a programme that has always been reserved for Auckland's top players.  We are the only club in West Auckland who offer this programme. 

 

We provide playing opportunities for all Primary and Intermediate age groups.  All our teams are graded according to ability as much as possible.  All our coaches are volunteers who are aware of our new programme.  We are one of the few clubs that have no parents coaching teams.  This enable all our parents to enjoy watching their child play.  We have many committed volunteer young adults who give back to the Juniors and coach.  Most of our coaches are or have been Auckland Representitive Players and our two top teams are currently coached by a Junior Blacksticks and a Blacksticks player.

 

We provide support for all our young players whether it is helping with their basics or providing training and guidance for those who have big dreams.  Danielle Jones (Blacksticks Player) runs development coaching programmes for Juniors at Western on a regular basis.
